Conclusions
Just as every other genre of literature has evolved in the last ten decades, so has Young Adult Literature. Although young adult literature's history is like no other. The literature has gone from a barely there genre with novels originally intended for adults but read by teens, to an explosive market with thousands of new young adult books being published every single year that represent every sub-genre that a reader could ever want. Studying book history's connection to this growth in young adult literature is fascinating as it uncovered YA literature ability to effect change and act as a cultural icon. The ability of the novel to act as knowledge and to make a difference in teen's lives that are going through difficulties by letting them know that they are not alone. The ability for YA literature to act as artifact in book history if we study the physical properties of the book and things like book covers evolution. The ability for YA literature to be studied in terms of the audience and as the reader, to note the changes in readership and audience interest and the controversies that it has caused. There is so much to be learned, if only we are willing to look and find it.
